LIVE: Raising Our Sleep Standards With Down Home
FARGO — A lot of us have a tough time getting enough sleep.
But if you don’t have a proper bed to sleep in, it’s much harder.
And now, local nonprofit Down Home wants you to verify that for yourself.
Down Home provides home furnishings for people coming out of homelessness, who often don’t have beds or other household goods.
But it’s not just about making their homes comfortable or attractive.
Chronic poor sleep is a serious health and economic problem for these families.
Down Home is asking us to try the “Good Night Sleep Challenge.”
Sleep on the floor one night, then see how it affects you and your mood and performance the next day.
Fatigue, disorientation, irritability, and the inability to concentrate are just some of the symptoms people report.
Then, imagine doing that night after night and think of how it would affect a child’s ability to learn in school, or a worker’s ability to accomplish tasks.
Down Home’s Emily Kaiser sat down with the Morning Show for a live interview about how poor sleep is affecting people in our community, and what you can do to help.
