LIVE: Getting Into the Swim of Things

FARGO — It’s swim season starting soon, and your kids may be a little rusty on swim safety.

So before they get in the water, you and they can score a free dry land water safety training session from Foss Swim School.

It’s just as important for parents to learn these tips as it for kids.

First, they say you should choose bright colors for kids’ swimsuits that contrast with the water and landscape.

Blues and greens tend to blend, and make it harder to spot your child in the event they run into trouble.

Also, train your children to wait for explicit permission to enter the water.

Put your phone down and keep your eyes on your kids.

And always make sure float coats fit correctly.

If it shifts up around their ears, it’s too loose and could come off or make it hard to get back in a boat.

Foss will also teach your kids a technique to flip onto their backs so they can always breathe in the water, along with other critical survival skills.

And remember, no one should ever swim alone.

Foss’s Jenna Cofield joined the Morning Show to share more essential tips for National Water Safety Month on how to keep summer swim season safe and fun.
