NWS hosts storm spotter class

MOORHEAD, Minn., (KVRR)- Severe Weather season has started around the country and the NWS is helping people get prepared.

They are hosting multiple classes on how to be a NWS Storm spotter and how to spot storms safely.

In these classes people were taught how to use NWS products, and safety tips for any kind of severe weather

The NWS does these classes every spring and storm spotters are essential for assessing storms and issuing warnings. Jacob Spender, NWS Grand Forks Meteorologist, said“So with the storm spotters themselves are vital to our operations because we key off on observations and radar information. Now we look at the atmospheric conditions as well but with our radar and observations that can be vital for actually issuing the warning”

They hosted a class in Moorhead today. They have one in Wahpeton on Wednesday and one in Middle River on Thursday.
