NDSU Baseball Prepares for Final Regular Season Series
NDSU HOSTS NORTHERN COLORADO TO CLOSE OUT THE REGULAR SEASON.
FARGO, N.D. (KVRR)--North Dakota State baseball sits at 13-10-1 in the Summit League entering this weekend and still have a shot at the regular season crown entering the final series of the regular season.
The Bison enter the final weekend of the regular season sitting in second place, just one win behind the current leader, St. Thomas (MN).
After back-to-back series wins against the Tommies and their rival, South Dakota State, the Herd are closing out the regular season exactly how they want as they are less than a week out from the Summit League Tournament in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
“We kind of talk about playing meaningful baseball late,” said senior outfielder, Cadyn Schwabe. “That is kind of our goal, and one thing that we are doing right now. Overall, it was a good weekend, we will take the series win. The focus is to try and play our best nine innings of baseball day in and day out and let the results take care of themselves.
Head Coach Tyler Oakes added, “It feels good. We have battled some injuries. We have had guys step up in certain spots, so it has not been just one or two guys that have gotten it done for us, it has been a collective effort and I think that is what you are hoping for as a coach.”
Now set to close the regular season against Northern Colorado, Oakes says its a balancing act fighting for the summit league crown while also preparing for the tournament coming up.
“We know we are in the tournament,” said Oakes. “We are still trying to play for first place and win the regular season title. At the same time, we are trying to line up our pitching and stuff for next week too. It is a delicate balance, and obviously we are going to go out and try to win every game that we can, but also be smart about when and how long we are using, especially some of our starting pitchers. We are definitely looking forward to playing one last weekend at home and play really good baseball heading into the conference tournament.”
NDSU and Northern Colorado will play a 3-game series this weekend, May 16-18.
Thursday and Friday have a first pitch of 6:30 P.M. The Final game of the regular season is set for Saturday at 1 P.M.
The Summit League Tournament begins next Wednesday, May 22, through Sunday, May 26.
