LIVE: A Can-Do Attitude for Canning and Preserving Season

FARGO — If you’re turning your can-do attitude toward canning the stuff you grew in your garden, or even just bought from the farmer’s market, there’s a good chance you might have run across some misinformation online.

Practices in food science have changed at lot since our grandparents’ recipes were written down.

And influencers online are often spreading canning myths, mistakes, and misinformation that could make you or your family sick, especially since they’re not calibrated for our region.

That’s why they’re holding a “canning bingo” event at the Fargo library to teach you the right way to do it, complete with prizes for participants.

NDSU extension agent Rita Ussatis joined the Morning Show to talk about why location matters so much to safe canning practices — even down to where you live within Cass County! — and what else you need to learn to preserve your family’s health when it comes to canning and preserving.
