LIVE: Drawing on Local Talent

MINNEAPOLIS — It’s the premiere of a new play at one of the nation’s top children’s theatre companies.

And now, the Children’s Theatre Company is drawing on local talent for their upcoming production.

The original play, “Drawing Lessons,” opens October 8th in Minneapolis.

It’s about a Korean-American adolescent who uses her graphic novel skills to find a path through the troubles of middle school and through her relationships with her peers.

The production combines both stage and screen action to bring the story’s graphic novel illustrations to life.

One of its stars will be MSUM alum Nikko Soukup-Raymo.

Soukup-Raymo is also an early childhood educator who says he was struck by the story’s themes.

He Zoomed in live to the Morning Show to talk about its exploration of adolescence, middle school, and the Asian-American experience.
