LIVE: Turning Up the Heat at the FM Symphony Orchestra
FARGO — Desire.
Jealousy.
Revenge.
Murder.
Things are really heating up in Fargo this weekend, and we’re not just talking about the weather.
The Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Orchestra kicks off Concert Week 2024 with a bang this weekend, the first in a series of themed shows.
This weekend’s theme is “Passion.”
You’ll hear a series of intense pieces from both familiar and lesser-known composers, including Bizet’s murderous finale of “Carmen,” and Strauss’s sinuous “The Dance of the Seven Veils.”
Not only do the pieces demand a lot of emotional and physical energy from the musicians, but they’re taking a risk technically, too.
None of them are part of their ordinary repertoire, even the Tchaikovsky.
It’s his “Hamlet,” to fit with the theme.
And, as the symphony’s Christopher Zimmerman warns, don’t expect fairies and dancing mice — this is no “Nutcracker.”
Zimmerman joined the Morning Show for a live interview ahead of a sneak preview performance from symphony concertmaster and violinist Sonja Bosca-Harasim with something special you won’t hear this weekend, but a piece that captures some of the passion of this weekend’s concert.
