LIVE: Festive Fall Foliage
MAPLEWOOD STATE PARK, Minn. — With the sudden change to cooler weather, conditions are just right to hit major fall color through our parts of Minnesota soon.
And at Minnesota’s Maplewood State Park, the fall foliage is just starting to show hints of the overwhelming display of color to come.
Park rangers there say within days of this cool weather, the colors will increase dramatically.
They say it should be in good condition in time for visitors to flood the park this coming weekend for the Leaf Days celebration.
Maplewood plays host to thousands of visitors during Leaf Days weekends.
They come to walk and ride the twenty-five miles of trails, and for horseback riding, fishing, canoeing and kayaking.
The volunteer group Friends of Maplewood also puts on rope-making, apple-pressing, art, and poetry readings for Leaf Days.
Assistant Park Manager Riley Finnegan and Friends of Maplewood’s Kim Pederson joined Emily Welker live in the field to talk about how to prepare in advance to beat the lines of tourists at the park, how to stay safe on the trails, and how to find your way to peak color.
