MSUM Hosts Annual 24 Hour Day of Giving
MOORHEAD, Minn. (KVRR) — The MSUM Dragons are taking flight from alumni and supporters on MSUM’s Day of Giving
“It’s an exciting day, it’s a great chance for our Dragon community to give back. Support students and scholarships, and programs here on campus,” said Steve Sjoberg, Director of Marketing and Communications for MSUM Foundation.
MSUM’s Giving Day is the biggest event of making donations for the year. This year they hope to top their goal from last year.
“We have a goal of raising $500,000 and trying to get 1,000 gifts for the day. Last year we did $460,000 and 850 donors made gifts. So it was a fantastic day last year and we’re just trying to repeat it this year,” said Sjoberg.
They are raising money for over 100 programs on the campus including the College of Arts and Humanities, College of Business, Analytics, & Communication and more.
“So people can not only give to one specific fund that really tugs on their heart strings but it’ll be matched or challenged by specific donors as well,” said Sjoberg.
And some Dragons are sharing their support by writing cards and creating videos to thank donors.
“I have so many different opportunities as a communications major.”
“It gives so much support to students like me who are trying to pursue their academic goals and graduate and yeah. It’ll help us in our future careers too as well,” said Adele Kennison, third-year student at MSUM.
As of this afternoon they had reached a quarter of their goal. Kennison and her friends pushed forward to continue their goal of 200 thank you cards.
“Thank you everyone so much who donated so far for the Giving Day so we’re … a quarter of a way to our goal so that’s super exciting and so yeah. Keep donating,” said Kennison.
