NDSU women’s basketball outlast UND in close 70-66 Summit League win
FARGO (KVRR) – The North Dakota State Bison survived a scare from the North Dakota Fighting Hawks to win 70-66 at the SHAC in Fargo. It came down to the wire as the Bison forced a turnover to ice the game at the free throw line for a Summit League victory.
Koenen led the Bison with 21 points shooting 50% from the floor. Jocelyn Schiller led North Dakota with 20 points as the freshman gave NDSU fits in the paint with her fast movements. But the star of the show was Fatima Ibrahim who had 10 points, 7 rebounds and 9 blocks on the Saturday.
First quarter was dictated by the inside presence of the NDSU as they raced out to a 21-13 lead. Players like Abbie Draper and Avery Koenen dominated the paint and kept the UND defenders away from the ball.
However, the second quarter was all Fighting Hawks. Jocelyn Schiller and Kiera Pemberton paced the UND offense while Fatima Ibrahim locked down the defensive side of the ball. North Dakota took a 33-30 lead into halftime.
In the third, North Dakota State returned to form. They dominated the paint once again while getting the Fighting Hawks into foul trouble and forcing many turnovers.
The final frame was back and forth but the Bison got the win thanks to their inside presence. Koenen kept hitting tough shots in the paint to keep UND at bay in the 4th quarter.
