LIVE: Strike A Blow Against For Kids Who Need Mentors

FARGO — It’s been 30 years of giving kids and teens in the region the right relationships they need to tackle the journey toward adulthood.

But this year, the wait list for kids looking to match with mentors at Big Brothers Big Sisters is almost as long as the list of kids they’re currently serving.

That’s part of what officials at BBBS say makes this year’s fundraiser so urgent.

The annual “Bowl for Kids” event is coming up soon.

If you want to act now, you can fill out a bowling pin and make a donation at area Hornbacher’s grocery stores.

The funds help the nonprofit match kids with the right adult volunteerĀ  mentor.

Mentors spend time with the children, take them to activities, and give them an adult to learn social and other skills from to help them on their way to college and beyond.

They matched 106 kids with big brothers or big sisters last year.

This year, there are 89 kids on the wait list hoping for help.

BBBS’s Susan Smith joined the Morning Show for a live interview about how being a big brother or sister can change the course of a child’s future, and what your contribution can mean to the community and its children.
