Moorhead Dairy Queen Celebrates Annual March 1st Re-Opening
The day has been officially commemorated by the city of Moorhead as "Dairy Queen Day," so the tradition isn't likely to change anytime soon.
MOORHEAD, Minn. (KVRR) – Though temperatures barely peaked above 20 degrees, a loyal line of customers would not be dissuaded from getting their Dairy Queen fix as soon as the windows flew open at 10 A.M.
“We always think of this every year,” laughed co-owner Troy DeLeon.
“Are they going to come back? Do people remember? And they do. It’s incredible, it’s a lot of fun.”
Troy and Diane DeLeon have owned this historic location since 1995, when they purchased it from the original owners, Bob and Phyllis Litherland.
Given that the Litherlands had poured their hearts and souls into the spot since 1949, Troy and Diane haven’t wanted to change a thing; least of all the traditional March 1st re-opening.
The DeLeons say to come on down, cause they’re ready for whatever the next months may hold.
“We’re totally fully stocked like we would be in the middle of July.”
