Homelessness Numbers On The Rise in FM Metro

Cold Homeless

FARGO —  The region’s homelessness problem is on the rise.

That’s according to officials with the United Way of Cass-Clay and the coalition United to End Homelessness.

It’s a group of area organizations joining forces and mobilizing to get the problem reduced, and ultimately ended completely.

They’ve identified a five percent increase in homeless rates, across all age and life demographics.

That works out to about one thousand fifty individuals unhoused in the Fargo-Moorhead metro each night.

Part of the cause is the rising cost of housing here, according to coalition members.

Taylor Syvertson is the United Way Developer of Community Impact.

She says about forty percent of all metro-area renters report spending more than a third of their income on housing.

She joined the Morning Show for an update on the coalition’s work, and what they say needs to happen now to get people back off the street and into homes.
