TJ Nelson Goes On The Record With Gin Blossoms Lead Singer Robin Wilson
FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — They were a staple on radio and tv in the 1990s with hits like “Follow You Down” and “Hey Jealousy”.
Gin Blossoms are ready to perform all their hits on Friday night at Shooting Star Casino.
KVRR’s TJ Nelson got a chance to catch up with the band’s lead singer.
“Hey jealousy! Hey jealousy.”
“That is a good question. Why should people come, hmmm? Um.”
I just had to ask the question of lead singer, Robin Wilson. What is the lure of a Gin Blossoms concert in 2025? Well it’s the songs we all grew up with of course!
“If you like rock music what you’re going to get is a competent, professional band that has pretty decent songs.”
“Well I’ve heard about nights at the schoolyard. I found out about you.”
More than decent. They scored a total of 8 top 40 hits in the 90s and mid-2000s. They broke up and reunited and are now on a steady tour of concert stops at theaters, casinos and state fairs.
“I didn’t know I was lost until I was on Allison Road.”
One of the band’s biggest hits was written by Wilson and no he wasn’t inspired by my co-anchor, Alison Voorhees.
“No, no actually at the time I had a girlfriend at the time her name was Channon.”
This Allison has two “Ls” and was inspired by a street sign.
“You dream about writing a song that connect with people and that was maybe my high point as a songwriter to come up with that and you very proud, very grateful.”
“Did you see the sky I think it means that we’ve been lost.”
“When you ask an 8-year-old what do you want to do when you grow up, you know fireman, astronaut, uh, rock star.”
“I don’t know if you are familiar with Terri Clark at all, country singer from Canada?”
“I’ve heard the name, yeah. I’m familiar.”
“She was there a couple weeks ago and it was a sold out show for her and she was kind of surprised. But there’s a resurgence for 90s country, fans of 90s country are really turning up for these shows for these artists. Are you seeing the same thing with the 90s rock fans are they showing up?”
“We’ve been doing really well for the last number of years, yeah. Our ticket sales are stronger now then they were back in the 90s.”
“Anywhere you go, I’ll follow you down.”
They’re on their way to a sold-out show Friday night. As of Thursday afternoon, there were just a few seats left at StarCasino.com.
