LIVE: Delicious Veggies at Moorhead Schools leave kids wanting more

MOORHEAD, MINN. (KVRR) — It’s a common refrain from parents: their kids won’t eat their vegetables. But thanks to new programs at Moorhead Schools, kids are coming home wanting more.

Parents in Moorhead have said that their kids have been requesting vegetables they’ve never liked before like brussel sprouts and broccoli, cooked exactly like the magicians at Moorhead Area Public Schools Food Service have been serving them up.

While they say there’s nothing magical to their recipe; it’s just oil, salt, pepper and other seasonings; they try to serve up at least one fresh roasted vegetable every week.

And they say it’s the consistency that gets kids trying these veggies, and telling their friends to start giving them a shot as well.

“Just put one on your tray today and try it. And then they like it, and it helps because they’re in a community. So if one friend tries it and they say this is good, it just goes like wildfire. And now we can’t keep broccoli on our shelves.”

They added it can be important to develop healthy eating habits early on, and that the key for parents is to keep trying to get your kids to love their vegetables.
