Oklahoma Man Involved In Monday Chase And Officer Involved Shooting is Charged

CROOKSTON, Minn. (KVRR) — The Oklahoma man involved in a pursuit from the Canadian border that ended with an officer involved shooting in rural Polk County is charged.

34-year-old Caleb Coffey of Yukon faces a felony charge of fleeing a police officer.

U.S. Border Patrol started chasing Coffey around 9 a.m. Monday after they learned he had a handgun in his vehicle at the Pembina Port of Entry.

The chase involved multiple agencies and reached speeds of nearly 120 miles per hour.

Coffey swerved and avoided stop sticks near Warren and Crookston.

He ended up in a ditch about five miles south of Crookston and hit a patrol vehicle as he tried to get back on County Road 9.

That is when Coffey got out of his vehicle with a gun in his hand and put it to his head.

After repeated requests to drop the gun, an officer shot Coffey in the leg.

That officer has not been identified.

Coffey had two loaded weapons on him: a 9mm pistol and a .40 caliber pistol.

His first court appearance is set for Thursday in Crookston.

Minnesota BCA is investigating the officer involved shooting incident.

Polk County Sheriff’s Office wants to talk to anyone who was put in harm’s way during the chase.

Coffey’s vehicle is a black, Cadillac SRX.

Anyone who was on the following roads and believed they were put in harm’s way are asked to contact the sheriff’s office:

*County Road 20 between the Marshall/Polk County line and County Road 21

*County Road 21 from Sherack to US Highway 75

*US Highway 75 from Polk County Road 21 to US Highway 2

*US Highway 2 from US 75 (Near UMC)

*City of Crookston

*County Road 9 (KT Road) from Crookston to County Road 16
