Crews Spend Hours At American Crystal Sugar in EGF After Fire In Pulp Dryer on Sunday

EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (KVRR) — East Grand Forks Fire crews spent nearly four hours at American Crystal Sugar on Sunday afternoon after a pulp dryer caught on fire.

Crews were called out around 2:30 as heavy smoke was coming out of the dryer.

The building was evacuated.

Due to the high heat from the fire, it extended into some duct work and a small part of the roof.

Crews had the fire out by 6 p.m.

The fire started due to a power outage at the facility causing some equipment to stop working.

Once it was restored, systems were able to assist with controlling the fire and heat.

No injuries were reported.
