Night Bazaar Features World-Record-Breaking Attempt

Organizers estimate well over 1,500 people ate s'mores at the same time just after 6:00 P.M.

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – The countdown began a few minutes after 6:10 on the evening of July 24 – to make sure everyone was in position to chow down at the same time.

That’s because Folkways was attempting to break the world record for most s’mores eaten in the same place at the same time.

Partnering with them was Wondermade, a Florida-based marshmallow company with surprisingly deep roots in the Fargo area.

“We actually come on vacations to Fargo. And people in Orlando are like, ‘What?!’ But we love it here,” said Wondermade founder Nathan Clark.

“We started talking with Simone and Joe with Folkways, and we were like what if we brought marshmallows and s’mores in?” Clark went on to say. “So we kind of hatched this great idea.”

Before the event, Joe Burgum of Folkways said that the attempt was really what mattered.

“We’re not sure if we’re going to beat the record, but that’s part of setting an audacious goal,” he said.

The number to beat was around 1,500 – and Folkways ended up cautiously optimistic they’ve smashed that benchmark.

It will take weeks for outside verification to confirm, as there was no representative from Guinness on scene, but in the meantime, everyone will savor the memory of their gourmet sweet treat – and the sense of community served on the side.
