FAA approves $15 million to upgrade runway and infrastructure at GFK

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (KVRR) — The FAA has awarded over $15 million for infrastructure improvements at Grand Forks International Airport.
That includes the reconstruction and upgrade of the primary runway and taxiway pavement and lighting that have reached the end of their useful life.
Reconstruction will be completed in three phases.
The overall project is estimated to cost $60 million, with a federal funding share of nearly $40 million.
“People are surprised when I tell them that we have one of the top 25 busiest airports in the country at Grand Forks. And of course it’s because we have the foremost school of aerospace and aviation there also because we have built the leading ecosystem for unmanned aviation in the world. That’s why we need a first-class airport,” said Sen. John Hoeven, a member of the Senate TransportationĀ Appropriations Committee,
Construction is expected to take place from 2026 through 2028.
