Passenger killed, child hurt in fire truck crash in southwestern Minnesota

COTTONWOOD, Minn. (KVRR-KFGO) – The state patrol is investigating a deadly rollover in southwestern Minnesota where a fire truck from the Wood Lake Volunteer Fire Department rolled on its side in the ditch during homecoming festivities in Cottonwood.
The patrol report says drinking was believed to be a contributing factor. The driver of the fire truck and a six-year-old boy were first hospitalized in Marshall before they were transferred to Sioux Falls with life-threatening injuries.
The child and a 43-year-old man were both passengers in the fire truck. The man died.
The fire truck was driven by a 37-year-old man. It happened Friday evening as Lakeview High School was marking the school’s homecoming.
The Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office is assisting with the investigation.
