FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – The world-record-holding Great Maze has officially shut down operations for the season.

It was a big year for the maze at West Acres.

The Johnson family made the switch from hay to cedar planks, which made the maze more eco-friendly and more difficult.

It was certified by Guinness as the world’s largest temporary wooden maze, and attendance rose by an estimated 10 to 15 percent.

While the maze will be back next year, the Johnsons say it’s always kind of sad to see it get taken down.

“It’s something my little family created, so it’s bittersweet to see it go for sure,” said Kathy Johnson. “It’s a lot of fun, it’s a happy place, and I’m a little sad to see it get torn down tomorrow.”

The record completion time for this year’s maze came in at just under half an hour.
