FARGO — Senate Minority Leader Kathy Hogan announced on Thursday, Jan. 15, that she will be retiring from the North Dakota Legislature at the end of her current term.

Hogan was first appointed to represent Fargo’s District 21 in the state House of Representatives in 2009 and was elected to the position the following year. She served in the House until 2018.

During her career, she served on the Appropriations, Finance and Taxation, Judiciary, Industry/Business and Labor, Transportation, and Agriculture committees as well as serving as the Assistant Minority Leader in the House in 2007.

Hogan was elected to serve in the state Senate in 2018. There she served on the Human Service Committee, as well as Agriculture, Transportation, and various interim committees.

In 2021, she was elected Caucus Leader and served as Minority Leader from 2023 to 2026.

“When I first became involved in District 21 in the winter of 1972, I could not have imagined the rich legacy this party would offer to me and our family. Despite many boundary changes, District 21 is still the heart of Fargo and West Fargo,” said Hogan, “It is a rich kaleidoscope of neighborhoods, schools, churches, businesses, and parks. It is the home to some of the most vulnerable citizens in our state whom we have nurtured and supported for decades. It is a diverse group of good people living and working together by living and learning continuously.”
