MCCLUSKY, N.D. (KVRR) —  A 103-year-old woman from McClusky, North Dakota is presented the Rosie the Riveter Congressional Medal in recognition of her service to the nation during World War II.

Elsie Reiswig grew up on a farm in Kief, North Dakota.

From 1942 to 1945 she lived in California and worked as a welder in a shipyard helping build vessels for the Allied war effort.

Elsie and her husband, Sam who served in the Army, lived in McClusky for many years where Sam owned a repair shop, retiring at 93.

They were married for over 73 years.

She was presented the medal by Sen. John Hoeven who cosponsored the Rosie the Riveter Congressional Gold Medal Act of 2019.

“The women of the Greatest Generation answered the call to serve our nation during one of the most pivotal moments in history,” said Hoeven. “Elsie represents the patriotism, sacrifice and work ethic that helped secure victory for the Allies and preserve freedom around the world. It is an honor to present her with the Congressional Medal and recognize her tremendous contributions to our country.”
