Photography exhibition gives a personal look at John Lennon’s “Lost Weekend”
FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – “I’m now letting people see him the way I saw him, through my eyes”
It is an intimate portrait on display, of one music legend’s “Lost Weekend” at the Underbrush Gallery in Fargo.
“We both went to our separate areas or like our corners to not think about this, but Yoko was quite insistent.”
Between 1973 and 1975, May Pang was in a relationship with John Lennon, during a time that he would later refer to as his “Lost Weekend.”
It’s a time that Pang says is often misportrayed.
“It’s a myth for that.”
“We had many quiet moments. We had fun together, we saw a U.F.O. together – which was documented – I took him on a bus ride in New York City, and he enjoyed it. We did things that he didn’t have a chance to do before as a Beatle.”
“Mick Jagger was a constant visitor to our home. I just remember one of the last times he came over, in town, he would just call up “Hey are you around?” “Oh we’re having dinner. I just ordered some Chinese takeaway,” and he goes “Oh, what are you having?”
“So we had all these people, but it wasn’t crazy. They came over, we had a good sit around, talk, chat, whatever, watch T.V. and they’d go home.”
Over the next two years, they carried on a relationship, during which John reconnected with his friends, former bandmates, and his son.
“The fact that the two of them are together,I mean you can’t beat that, that’s family. He hadn’t seen his father in 3 years, so getting together, and him wanting to be with us the whole time, I’m just grateful.”
And now she’s sharing photos she took during that time, and reflecting on that “Lost Weekend” more than 50 years ago.
“This is John at home. This is the real John that I knew. For people to see that, that he wasn’t this crazy person, he wasn’t drug-fuelled, or an alcoholic, he wasn’t. This is what we were all about.”
If you’re interested in checking out the exhibtion, it will be on display at Underbrush Gallery on June 9th and 10th, from 1 P.M. to 7 P.M.
