Get Ready To Pay More In Property Taxes In Both Fargo And Moorhead

Property Tax Increases Are Expected To Be Between 3% and 6%

FARGO, N.D. — People living in Fargo and Moorhead will be paying more in property taxes in 2019.

Fargo city commissioners last night approved the 2019 budget.

There’s a 1.9 percent increase in the general fund for a total of $98.5 million.

There is no cut in the property tax rate, which will remain at 51 mills.

Property tax collections will increase by 5.3 percent, amounting to nearly $26 million.

There will also be a small increase in fees for street lights, tree maintenance and storm sewers, amounting to an additional $36 a year for homeowners.

In Moorhead, the city council has approved a proposed 2019 budget.

It includes a 3.4 percent increase in property taxes for a home valued at $180,000.

The total budget runs around $83 million, an increase of over one million dollars from 2018.

A public input hearing will be held in November before the council votes on the final budget in December.
