LIVE: Stepping into the Light with the Red River Children’s Advocacy Center

FARGO — For more than two decades it’s been one of the best-kept secrets in the region.

And now, the Red River Children’s Advocacy Center is stepping into the light to share how they help local kids going through one of the darkest times of their lives.

It’s a one-stop shop of sorts for child crime victims.

Anything from sexual and physical abuse, to neglect and exploitation.

It brings all the experts, including police, prosecutors, doctors, social workers, and other caretakers to the child, rather than requiring the child to go to them.

That way they only need one interview, recorded on-camera, and one physical exam, to reduce the child’s trauma while starting the healing process.

And because they’re children, and sometimes sex crime victims as well, privacy is of the utmost importance.

Executive Director Sarah Matthews and Engagement and Giving Specialist Dan Lynum joined the Morning Show to talk about the programs at the center that help children cope with and conquer the trauma they’ve endured and what it means for our community to have this resource here for kids.
