Red River Market Opens for Season

FARGO — The Red River Market kicks off for the season tomorrow in downtown, but the nonprofit behind it is running into resistance from city leaders when it comes to blocking off downtown streets for their gatherings.

Folkways founder Simone Wai says it won’t affect the farmers market, which is now in its second decade and has grown to 80-some vendors.

However, they also want to try to break the world’s record for most people eating S’mores at one time at their upcoming Night Bazaar in downtown.

They think it’ll pack the street with more than two thousand S’mores eaters, but city leaders decided not to grant their request to block off some street portions.

Wai says they’d like more clarity from city council members going forward on what’s considered a “legacy event” worthy of limiting some street access, and what’s not.

Wai and vendor Megan Toso of Preheat Pastry Shop joined the Morning Show to talk about this season’s farmer’s market, the Night Bazaar and S’mores record attempt on July 21st, and what it is that keeps people coming back year after year.
