Congressional Candidates Hughes and Peterson Debate in Moorhead
The candidates for Minnesota’s 7th Congressional District took to the airwaves for a debate at MPR’s Moorhead station.
KVRR caught up with Dave Hughes and Congressman Collin Peterson after the debate to ask them what they’re focusing on in these last few days of the campaign.
Hughes said he’s working on name recognition and differentiating himself from Peterson.
Peterson says it’s just business as usual.
“I am much more conservative and I am much more dedicated to following the constitution than I believe Colin is,” said Republican Candidate Dave Hughes. “That’s important not for its own sake, but for what I think that brings to the American people, the nation as a whole and Western Minnesota.”
“I’ve been there a long time so people know me, they know my position on the issues,” said incumbent Rep. Collin Peterson. “I think they know I can do the job. I’ve been there operating under both Republicans and Democrats and I’ve got a lot of friends on both sides of the aisle.”
During the debate, the candidates laid out their platforms on refugees, agriculture, and how to overcome the gridlock in Congress.
