Virus season ramps up in the region
FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — Sanford Infectious Disease doctors are saying virus season is really heating up in the region.
They’re starting to see flu cases in the adult population ramping up, as well as, RSV in children.
However, Covid cases seem to be holding steady.
The stretch between Thanksgiving and Christmas can be a rich petri dish for virus transmission.
That’s as kids go back and forth between big family gatherings, back to school, and then to the winter break with Christmas and other holiday celebrations.
Kids aren’t getting outside to play as much, too.
“We plan our capacity and staffing issues around this time so we always have an influenza surge plan, and of course, other viruses too,” says, Dr. Avish Nagpal, Sanford Infectious Disease Specialist.
If you do start to show symptoms, be sure to go get tested right away for what kind of virus you have.
That’s because with Covid and with RSV, your doctor can prescribe you medications that can help keep you from getting seriously ill.
And don’t forget to get vaccinated for flu, Covid, and, if you’re eligible, RSV.
