LIVE: Filling Up Fast to Fill Up on Fresh Produce

FARGO — Interest is up nationwide from first-time home gardeners this spring, and that’s got spots at the Growing Together Community Gardens filling up fast.

Three of their ten garden spots around the metro are already full, says founder Jack Wood.

They’ve got sixty new members this year and registration for spring isn’t even started yet.

The program has more than 300 volunteers who work together to grow more than 50,000 pounds of food each year.

And it gives you access to activities beyond just working alongside other members to grow heirloom tomatoes and vegetables to share the bounty.

It also gives growers the chance to work alongside and learn from master gardeners and other seasoned garden experts.

They offer programs like a potato planting clinic set for April 22nd, a Flower Herb Collective program where you can make and sample your own herbal tea concoctions, and of course the produce market starting in August.

Yoga in the Garden is back again this year, and so are the meals and produce members can make and share with the Great Plains Food Bank and other shelters.

Wood joined the Morning Show for a live interview about why there’s growing interest in growing your own food, and why even a novice gardener can get started successfully.
