LIVE: Happy Bodies, Happy Minds for Young Girls
FARGO — It’s a 5K that’s being billed as the biggest public event yet for a local nonprofit that aims to make young girls’ minds happy and healthy, by encouraging their bodies to do the same.
The BIO Girls “Find Your Kind” 5K is coming up Wednesday, May 14th, and they’ve already got more than 700 runners registered.
Program participants are girls from second to sixth grade, learning to improve their self-esteem through healthy movement, healthy peer relationships, mentoring, and learning life skills.
The goal of the 5K isn’t to come in first, second, and so on.
As a matter of fact, it’s not even timed.
The goal is just completing the route — which gives the girls the freedom to run, walk, even skip the whole way, whatever feels best for them.
If you’ve got a girl in your life who could use a little positive movement, registration is still open.
BIO Girls’ Macy Kraemer joined the Morning Show to talk about how the mind-body connection is critical to helping girls stay happy, healthy, and with high self-esteem through the turbulent adolescent years.
