Pet Connection: Meet Katya

MOORHEAD — It’s officially Katya, but why be so formal?

After all, it only takes a few seconds for her to award you kisses and cuddles, so we’ll call her by the name her foster family’s affectionately dubbed her: “Pig,” thanks to the silly snorting sounds she makes when she’s content.

She’s a sweet-natured, happy-go-lucky, year-and-a-half-old pit bull who loves play and snuggle time in equal measure.

As her foster mom at 4 Luv of Dog, Becca Morehouse, explains, like most dogs of her breed, Pig is very affectionate, and gets along with all kinds of people, although if you have very small children she might inadvertently bounce them around a little in her enthusiasm for play.

She’s also very gentle with senior citizens, seeming to understand that lively play is not appropriate for everyone.

She’s healthy, like most members of her breed, and at a year and a half probably will not get much bigger.

As a matter of fact, she came from a situation in which her tail had been broken, requiring amputation due to the severity of the break.

However, it doesn’t seem to cause her any lingering pain, and as a matter of fact, her go-to move to secure more scratches is to come over and sit on your foot.

In short, she’s sort of the perfect package — not too big, not too small, and easy to get along with for everyone.
