Pet Connection: Meet Sriracha

FARGO — Sriracha is a spicy little sweetie who’s the perfect combination of docility and personality, which has a lot to do with her species.

This little girl is a bearded dragon who puts the leap in “leaping lizards!”

She is indeed a little jumpy at first, and as far as it appears, she has not had the benefit of a lot of handling in her original home.

Sriracha came to her original owner as quite a small baby, but as babies do, she grew.

And that, according to Kritter Krazy Reptile and Exotic Rescue’s Ashley Simms, intimidated the children in the house, so here she is, at just a few months old, looking for a new furever home.

If you are intimidated by a bearded dragon, that likely means you have not spent any time with this lizard species before, because they are known for their laid-back personalities and for being the perfect starter reptile pet.

As a matter of fact, with only a few minutes of handling, Sriracha got the hang of it, and spent the rest of the segment enjoying the body warmth and the novel experience of snuggles.

Beardies do need specific conditions including a heat lamp to bask under, and greens and insects to eat.

And with the right conditions, plus some gentle, consistent handling, they can be extremely rewarding little pets, as Sriracha is shaping up to be.
