School Snapchat Sex Investigation: How to Talk to Your Kids About It

FARGO — It’s a story that’s got parents and educators asking questions about children’s safety on social media.

That’s after investigators seize more than 50 cell phones from area high school students allegedly using Snapchat to create child porn, with some victims as young as middle school.

Some of the victims were also featured in videos using artificial intelligence, according to the North Dakota Attorney General.

Experts from the Red River Children’s Advocacy Center say it’s important to start safety conversations early.

They recommend parents use correct medical terminology for body parts, rather than euphemisms.

Emphasize bodily autonomy and consent, and show kids you’re a safe adult to talk to.

Sarah Matthews of the RRCAC joined the Morning Show to talk about crafting a conversation that’s right for your child, best practices in general, and how to model the behaviors you want your child to adopt when it comes to safety online and in real life.
