FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – There were plenty of frightening creatures to be seen this weekend at the Red River Zoo.

We’re not talking about the animals, of course.

Children and families in costume lined up outside the door to get inside for the annual “Boo at the Zoo” event.

There were all sorts of Halloween-themed activities, most notably trick-or-treating.

Zoo staff says that this hallmark event is key for boosting attendance in the colder months.

“I am a Halloween fanatic,” admitted Red River Zoo CEO Sally Mulvena.

“I just have to tell you, it’s so charming to see all the kids coming into the zoo in their costumes. They’re so proud – and they get a chance to don their costumes before Halloween. It’s a really heartwarming event, and it helps to sustain the zoo.”

If you missed out, no need to fear – there will be two more Boo at the Zoo dates you can attend. Those will be October 18 and October 25.
