Spay It Forward Expands
FARGO — The temperatures here during winter can make surviving the streets a matter of chance for homeless pets.
Now, you’ve got a chance to apply for a low-cost program to spay or neuter yours.
Minn-Kota Paaws is a local pet welfare group that works to spay and neuter strays, feral cats, and other animals in the region to keep the number of unwanted pets at a minimum.
They just got a grant from the ASPCA that lets them expand the help they give low-income families to get surgeries to fix their pets.
You need to fill out an application and come up with a small co-pay.
The program is first-come, first-served, and funds to operate it are limited.
Even if you don’t realize how important it is to spay and neuter to keep the number of unwanted pets at a minimum, there are lot of other benefits to fixing your animal.
Fixed pets are better companions, and can bond better with their humans, have less propensity to roam, with fewer territory marking and aggression behaviors, and fewer overall health problems.
Amy Kracht, of Minn-kota Paaws, joined the Morning Show to talk about how many pets the new grant money will let them help, and why even if you haven’t been able to swing the co-pay in the past, it’s worth applying again.
