Making Strides for Girl’s Mental Health: Find Your Kind 5k
FARGO — We’ve come a long way in the past few years when it comes to young girls and mental health and well-being.
But one Fargo-based nonprofit thinks we can go the distance, and they want your help.
BIO Girls (for Beautiful Inside and Out) is holding it annual “Find your Kind 5k” coming up later this month.
Its founder, Missy Heilman, says the event has grown steadily since its inception a few years ago.
So far this year’s run, set for April 29th, has three hundred-plus girls registered to run or walk.
The nonprofit works with girls from second through sixth grade to boost their physical activity level and connect them with tools to improve their mental health and relationships.
They say it’s critical for girls that age to get support like the kind they provide, because that’s the age girls’ self-esteem typically plummets.
Heilman joined the Morning Show to talk about their evidence-based approach to getting girls moving, improving their mental well-being and relationships, and what kinds of opportunities there are for you and the young girls in your life.
