Pet Connection: Meet Stitch
BOTTINEAU, N.D. — Ask anyone in the elementary-school set, and they’ll tell you Stitch the bearded dragon is a lot better behaved than his namesake character from the Disney movie.
However, for some reason, beardies are amongst the most likely species to be abandoned or neglected in our region, or in this little guy’s case, simply surrendered to Kritter Krazy Reptile and Exotic rescue, which operates out of Bottineau and is the region’s only rescue specializing in reptiles and other exotics.
The reasons vary, but part of it is because unlike a lot of other exotic pets, beardies aren’t very expensive to bring home from the pet store.
However, that doesn’t mean neophyte beardie owners always realize their new pet will need specialized equipment and care like heat lamps, nutritional supplements, and other items to keep the little lizards in tip-top shape.
Fortunately for the aspiring beardie owner, Stitch has the docile, cuddly personality that characterizes these little lizards, making them a great choice for a beginner — like anchor Gabe Ostler, who was brave enough to handle a lizard for his first time live on air in this segment.
Stitch has been well-socialized, and even eats his veggies without complaint, even though a lot of beardies have to be coaxed to eat their all-important greens as well as their much-preferred insects.
Beardies can live a decade or more, so little Stitch could give you many years of love and lizard snuggles in his forever home.
